Coal Cufflinks

The coal for these cufflinks was collected by hand while hiking on a trail in the Canadian rocky mountain town of Canmore, Alberta. Once a prominent mining town, Canmore has since ceased all mining activity, but if you look closely you can still find lumps of coal scattered along the forest floors. The coal for these earrings has been coated with a water based clear coat to prevent pigment transfer. They were then attached to hypoallergenic surgical stainless steel cufflink posts.

These one of a kind coal cufflinks are all from the same coal seam so while similar, they do have some natural variation in size and shape. Each pair measures approximately 10 mm wide. The beautiful differences and irregularities are what we love about natural jewelry, they are never the same, just as the cufflinks you purchase will be similar but different than the pairs in the photos.
